Chattonella marina

Description:  Cells < 50 μm.  A small tail can be found in some old cells but it is very small and short.  Typically they lack vacuoles in their ectoplasm, but may be present in old cultures.  Distinguishing characteristics overlap largely with C. ovata and C. antiqua, but since it is the oldest, C. marina retains its taxonomic status.

Type Locality: Malabar coasts, India
